The whole piece of music was completely created at home on a KORG M1 synthesizer, not yet rebuilt at that time.
I used the built-in 8-track sequencer for this (not great) and all the tracks are directly played by the sequencer.
All tonal, rhythmic and sonic ideas are mine and many sounds were custom made, but of course within the capabilities of the KORG M1 synthesizer.
The work was created and matured in me for several years - in addition to other activities and also in addition to composing completely different pieces that were not related to the work "Fool".
I recorded many of the raw ideas for this work on a reel-to-reel tape recorder at that time, and they have been preserved to this day, of course no longer on tapes.
Around 1997, when the work was completed, it was recorded only on audio cassette in Dolby C and also on a reel-to-reel tape recorder.
However, it was possible to play back the work in high quality directly from the KORG M1, but it required a KORG M1 synthesizer, an amplifier, speakers, and also a computer with data for the sequencer.
In 2005 the work was digitally recorded (on a computer), but not through a good sound card.
In 2012 the work was "remastered", i.e. better re-recorded, digitally on a computer of course.
However, any additional modifications were made only for the purpose of higher sound quality, primarily noise reduction in the critical quiet parts of the tracks.
The sounds used - corresponding to the capabilities of the KORG M1 at the time - were fully preserved.
Mp3 of the whole work is available on my website.
In 2024, the work was remastered once more, but with only minimal changes.
The main goal was to make the CD sound a little louder.
It is true that I would do this musical work differently today.
Even if I wanted to keep all the original ideas and atmosphere, I would definitely re-record all the tracks and use better quality sounds and acoustic instruments.
However, this work seems unnecessary to me - the work „Fool“ is an expression of my thinking, feeling and possibilities at the age of 17 - 20 and it should remain so.
